Little Big Game

Just so everyone knows, the Cal econ grad students whooped up on the Stanford econ grad students yesterday. We beat them in basketball, football, and soccer. We lost in volleyball and ultimate. The Arrow-Debreu trophy, a bronzed apple core inside an Edgeworth box, depends only on football, so it will continue to reside in its rightful place (the grad student lounge in Evans) for at least another year. Photos.

I did not run 50K today because it sold out before I could register. Instead I tried out my Fivefingers. They'll take some getting used to.

I might try and hike from Badwater to the top of Mt. Whitney next week with a friend via the L2H route.

  1. Sweet. I hope you do the L2H so I can live off your experience. That sounds like a great adventure. How many days are you thinking it will take if you guys decide to do it?

  2. Assuming I grade my exams in a timely fashion and my truck makes the drive, start Tuesday and try and be back to work on Monday.

  3. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH! JINX!!!!!! My brake line just broke and leaked stuff everywhere and the pedal presses all the way to the floor without doing anything. Seriously.

  4. Brakes only slow you down anyway... Seriously though...that sucks.

  5. You have to check out Blake Wood's account of his Badwater to Whitney trip in Oct 2002. Did it in ~50-60 hours, postholed across Owens lake, had a sublime recovery experience on the Mountaineers Route at the end.

    Use teh Google.
